File → Open .pl5… reads a Pathloss 5 binary link file directly in the browser. If the open project already contains path data, Spanline prompts whether to merge the imported hop into the current project or replace the project cleanly.
After import, Spanline summarizes the imported site, equipment, and profile records. The terrain and clutter profile stored in the .pl5 is displayed immediately, and the geodesic path length recomputed with Vincenty on WGS84 is compared against the path length stored in the file (flagging any discrepancy greater than 1 m).
.pl5 file.File → Export .pl5 writes a native Pathloss 5 .pl5 file from the active hop—patching imported .pl5 structures in place for full round-trip fidelity with Pathloss 5 or generating a clean binary .pl5 file for hops created from scratch in Spanline. In addition, File → Import .rsd… imports Pathloss radio equipment data files directly into the equipment catalog.
On the standard Byhalia (College & Bethel) reference .pl5 path, Spanline reproduces Pathloss 5's free-space loss (127.83 dB), net path loss (58.32 dB), receive signal level (−31.32 dBm), and thermal fade margin (17.28 dB). See the link budget method page for the full propagation equations and constants.
